There is a lot of talk at the moment about mindfulness and how it can actually be used in a business context. So what is mindfulness?
“A mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.”
If that all sounds a bit new age hippy / millennial for you, take a moment to consider this; how many times each week or even each day do you feel so consumed by your work that it is actually stifling. It makes you anxious and your heart race because of the number of items on your to do list or the sheer number of meetings you are in?
Wouldn’t it be nice to balance this with something for yourself, to bring focus to you and how you are feeling?
Believe me, I have been where you are now and it’s not healthy, it’s not nice and it’s certainly no way to carry on working effectively.
So at those moments when it all starts to build, I invite you simply to breathe.
Only think about the breathe in and out and nothing else.
For one minute. Slow it down.
In through the nose, out of the mouth.
Breathe…
