The pressures of the to do list sometimes mean that things hang around on there for days. Those tasks that are seemingly so enormous that you don’t know where to start. Often all it takes is one small step.
Instead of thinking about the project as a whole, instead think about the one small thing that will set you off in the right direction. Make the note on your to do list a “doing” task; “email John”, “call Ian”, “write 3 bullets for my presentation”, “read the first two pages of that report” – you get the idea. By making the first task a small task that can be easily achieved oftentimes you will find that is enough to start those creative juices flowing and several more tasks show themselves to you.
