Setting boundaries is really important for lots of reasons, as I’ve previously discussed. However boundaries goes a step further. We live in an “always on” society where our phones put the office in our pocket. But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should, check your emails or do work once you’ve left the office for the day.
Those in your line management will look to you to set an example, so if you’re answering emails at 10pm at night they are going to think this is expected of them. It’s even more important at the weekend or on holiday. Thankfully most of us don’t work in life or death functions so there really is nothing that important that can’t wait. Your time away from the office is just as important to the working day as the time you spend in the office. If you do not reset, recharge and have downtime then you will not perform at your best.
