Appraisals, also known as performance reviews, are such a key part to developing a really well functioning team. Even if your company doesn’t have a policy on when and how to do appraisals you should take the lead with your team and offer the opportunity to have their performance evaluated on a regular basis.
I aim for an appraisal every six months. This gives your team time to drive through the objectives and changes or developments you agree to at the end of the previous appraisal but isn’t too long that they feel unsure of their own progression.
